Five!

The saintliest of all children, Morrison Flynn enjoyed his very-late-pushed-back-by-comedy-festival-never-once-complained-about-it birthday party... yesterday. 25 days after the fact.

We had done the dinner with Nana and Papa, cake and presents on the 1st, we're not total heathens. It was then he scored his new bike and all was right with the world.

"It's red white and black, it's got a bell and goes really fast" in case you were wondering. It's had a few trips to the lake, one ride without brakes down a hill, in to a tree and countless rounds of the deck.

We're not allowed to ride in to the dog or over our brother, so you know. Normal as!

For the party, we went to a place that is just a decibel above parent-abuse, otherwise known as, an Indoor PlayCentre. If you've never been before, it's a place where adults absolve themselves of blame and kids absolve themselves of the laws of physics, and nature.

There's stuff to climb, heave, slide down, be pushed off, hide in and get carpet burn from. So that's what our dozen or more 4-8 year-olds did. As a parent or guardian, you stand on the bits that aren't spongy and drink coffee which is not spiked in any way shape or form and pretend to watch what's going on. Occasionally you can shout out, "Stop it!" and/or "Get off that/him/her!" What's not to love!?

Mo requested dark, dark, chocolate brownie cake. The PlayCentre provided ice-cream cake. I did not ask about allergies for my children do not have any therefore my care valve is less primed.

So, is there much of a change from 4yo to 5yo? Well, he's a school kid now. No kinder. No hanging out at home with Mum, bored out of his [sizeable] gourd.  Making LOTS of new friends in a class taught by the supremely wonderful, Miss Morrish.  The change from 4 to 5 means that THIS year, he can join Little Athletics. Come September, that's going to be a world of joy!

Morrison is independent, joyous, confident, generous, beautiful and hirsute!

Thanks for helping us celebrate, Aiden, Angus, Linda, Lohia, Becca, Matthew, Clancy, Tild, Bodhi and Holly. Spike of course and we missed you Shoruya and Nathan.

Happy birthday Mo Flynn, we couldn't love you more if you had a cool hard cash packed chewy cream centre

Lots of love,

Mum, Daddy, Spike Rye and Orson Pup Chews-Everything Superstar. xxxx

we have a comedian in our midst

Both our boys are pretty amusing. In a house where funny is currency, they either step up to the plate or go live in the yard.

Spike is gregarious and in your face. Your basic poo, bum, wee jokes are king. There's lots of tah-dah'ing and laughing at your own jokes.

Morrison, on the other funnier hand, is more absurdist than his brother. More thoughtful and interesting and has displayed a tentative grasp of the callback. Pretty slick!  He's our favourite.

Daddy, Spike and Mo were walking down a very steep trail in a nature reserve -

Daddy: "Mo, be careful, we don't want you to fall."

Mo: "Yeah, I might break my head!"

Daddy: "Yep, and you might use your head for something someday..."

Mo: "Yeah, for eating!"

Later, at dinner, as Daddy was telling the story to mummy -

Mo puts a bite of food to his forehead and says with a very straight face, "It's not going in!"

End Scene.

And some other recent gems.

"I like tidying up but I don't like it on Wednesdays."

Immediately after a quite barky croup cough "Did you hear that, Mumma?! There's something wrong with my brain!"

"Georgio says when you die you go to Kevin, bit I think that's probably ridiculous."

"Daddy, when you're good enough to touch your toes you'll be in kinder just like me. And when we get home, I'll show you how to do press ups."

"Are you a Mum?" "Yes babe. I'm your Mum." "Right. Do you like to wear jeans?" (And now he's not allowed to read @robdelaney's twitter feed.)

"I can hear POPCORN on the roof!" Yes, it was a hail storm.

And this little gem from July last year, "My favourite colours are red, yellow and monkey."

Perfect, funny little bugger.

Mo Movies

Let's revisit the lovely, lovely winter. T'was very early in the season and there were sleds involved.

And now for a story. More recent. I'll wait while you grab your popcorn.

And that's how a three year old tells you a story. Only, multiply that event, by roughly, one million. You're gonna need more popcorn if you want to watch the unedited cuts is all I'm sayin'.  Better get yourself a drink too.

So, to reiterate;

Snow - Excellent when still.

Stories - Also Excellent albeit time consuming.

Happy, funny, stubborn, chatty little boy.

Available for smoochin' and potty training.

Seriously, who wants to potty train this kid?  SOMEONE HAS TO!

Pffff!

This is why they're cute. So you don't kill 'em.

Orgust

So, what's our little head on a stick been up to then?

This is how he has to carry his huge head around nowadays.

Well, not quite. But from some angles, it looks like an easier option!

He's defiant, contrary, funny, loud, dextrous and strong.

He LOVES; Daddy! Nana, Papa, puppies, babies, baked beans "Beeeeeeeeens!" bath time, bagels with or without cream cheese, juice "Joooooose!", books and his big brother.

He DISLIKES; Egg, being told what to do, random lumps in his food, being told what to do, waiting his turn and being told what to do.

So long as you have that list straight, he's pretty easy to get along with.

Both kids have taken to mountain life with gusto. SO much room to run around, get muddy, ride bikes and explore.  There are two little girls next door (Mikayla and Ella) who are the same age. Adorbz, naturally. Morrison is every bit the social creature that his brother is. Everyone gets a hug or a handshake, for more formal occasions. If he really likes you, he will take his dummy out before he kisses you.

We ask him, "What's your name?"

"Mo!"

"How old are you?"

"Two!"

"Are you smart or cute?"

"Mo!"

Sums it up, really.

Love this kid of ours!
